Going left just north of the Sun ‘n’ Surf is perhaps always a dangerous proposition - I discovered this yesterday afternoon. Thinking the tide had gone out far enough that I wasn’t in danger of running into one of the breakwater’s cast off boulders, I took off left on a wave and after few seconds found myself staring at the top of a large, flat, barnacled rock directly in my path. In hopes of sparing my board from a massive scar I jumped from it and onto the rock, landing somehow on both my hands and feet, scraping them up pretty good. Gaining my composure after a second or two, I stepped off the rock and after my board. If it hadn’t just come out of the shop with $140 in dings repaired I would be more grateful about the relatively minor beating it took - a small ding up near the nose and a bunch of scrapes in the vicinity. I’m going down to look at it now and see what I can do to keep her leakproof - hopefully just a couple coats of resin and that’ll do it - this is not the week you want to be dropping your board off for repairs.
